Starside Ch2 (Starship wepons and empire charastics)
Ok well here is chapter 2 on some ideas for starship weapons and arsernal. Along with some of MySorry PAINT images. I will add a few more and expand on this concept next week. Along with the paint I had included some of what I call insperation from real sci fi prop and design artist. So out of my puddles of color and the things I have picked as good props you might understand what I am trying to show.
Starside, Planetside 2 Chapter 2, starship weapons and empire characteristics Starship Weapons Empire weapons type Terran Republic will have mostly unguided projectile weapons. The lack of guidance system will be made up by an insane rate of fire and penetration power. They will have a slight aim assist that can be toggled on or off but the projectiles will not track targets if they change course. Vanu Sovereignty will have an exotic array of energy weapons. These weapons will have special effects such as plasma damage. The beams can bend slightly unlike Terran dumb fire projectiles but will have a slower rate of fire. That doesn’t mean that they cannot be outmaneuvered. New Conglomerate will have an array of guided missile weapons. The rate of fire will be extremely slow however since the guided missiles will almost always hit it will make up for the slower firepower. Weapon Systems Torpedoes Torpedoes are powerful guided anti ship weapons. Unfortunately they will not track small Space Craft or probes. Another downside is that they will burn up and detonate entering the atmosphere of any planet or moon. This restricts them strictly to an anti-ship role. Terran Torpedoes are like any standard guided torpedo. However they fly faster than the other two. Vanu Torpedoes have a plasma warhead that sends searing plasma fires that burns and continues to damage the ship and its systems. New Conglomerate Torpedoes have a timed impact warhead. They appear as a bright flare that sticks to the ship. The torpedoes fuse gives a whine almost as warning to those who may be nearby till it erupts in a massive explosion damaging much of the ship. Weapon Turrets With the exception of defense turrets these turrets can bombard a planets surface. There are 4 categories of turrets; Defense, Light, Medium, and Heavy turrets. Defense Turrets Defense turrets are the most common type of weapon system that will be found on scattered about every single starship. Defense turrets have a small range. So they are better at shooting fighters and probes. Because of their small range they cannot bombard targets from orbit. However they can be used in the Atmosphere of a planet. Their range will be reduced though as they have to cut though the gaseous atmosphere of planets. Terran Defense turrets are a series of chain guns circling a manned pod. 4 turrets on the inner ring and another 6 turrets on the outer ring making a total of 10 chain guns. (image comming soon) Vanu has a wired “lightening” type weapon that shoots what appear to be strings of electricity damaging small craft near by. It cereats a damage field that causes slight damage to probes and Space Craft but soons adds up. The field is a narrow cone shape that has a higher concentration of damage output in the center, and closer to the turret. (image comming soon) New Conglomerate has what appear to be 4 Sparrow missile pods on each side of his station. These can either fire locked on on rapid fire mode. (image comming soon) Light/Medium turrets These weapon systems are the most common type of anti-ship weapon. They are almost identical to each other. The only thing different is the Light turret can retract within the hull when power is cut off from them. However Medium turrets can fire the specialized ammo or weapon mode and have only a slightly longer reach. Terran turrets are doubled barreled turrets that fire unguided shells straight at another ship and at a very fast rate. They have a targeting computer to assist with the trajectory. Along with standard shells they also have two other types. The explosive type shell explodes causing a wide area of damage. The radiation shell creates a large radiation field similar to the radiator AT weapon. (Image comming soon) Vanu turrets fires a single beam of energy that can bend to targets that would otherwise be a near miss. Unlike other empires they don’t have different ammo types. Instead they have 2 special firing modes in addition to standard mode. These modes drain the cell twice as much per shot though. The Plasma mode burst in an explosion of burning plasma for aggravated damage. The EMP (Electric Magnetic Pulse)mode sends a shockwave that disables systems. (Image Comming Soon) Conglomerate turrets are archer cruise missiles pods that track and destroy their targets. The turrets can either fire standard lock on mode or dumb fire for plantary targets and ships that are too far away to lock on. You can lock on to smaller space craft but the space craft will more likely out run or out maneuver the slower anti ship missiles. They have three different types of warheads. Explosive are the standard type of warhead that light turrets are restricted two. MRL (Multiple Rocket Launcher) warheads burst into a series of smaller warheads that scatter out for wider damage just before making contact with the surface. HEAT (High Energy Accelerated Telemetry) Warheads can punch through shields to cause damage to ships. (image comming soon) Heavy Turrets Heavy Turrets are most powerful orbital bombardment weapon. These turrets can only be found on Battle Cruisers. Terran has a massive 4 gun heavy turret. The shells that fire are still unguided, but 4 shots a volley, more damage, and longer range does make up for this. Also the high rate of terran fire makes it a scary oponant up close. (Image comming soon) Vanu has a particle beam emmiting array that has the same fire modes as the medium turrets. However it packs more of a punch and longer range. However it fires sloer than the smaller turrets. (Image comming soon) Conglomerate heavy weapons turrets are a houseing of 4 balastic missles that can either be locked on or fly by wire. The fly by wire feature makes thes into long range cruise missles that can hit any target in the system evne those that cannot see it. Thus makeing a Battle cruiser a very serious threat to any system. (Image Comming Soon) MAX MAX armor can exit the ship and walk around the hull making them an augmentation to other ship based weapons. Anti-vehicle MAX will be ideal for engaging ships, while Anti-aircraft will most likely be used for engaging Space Craft. AMPods (Shield Pods) AMPods or Shield Pods create a protective field around the ship. Damage to one of these will create a hole or exposed area of the ship. Though not a weapon they are an important exterior feature of ships. Shuttle Bay This is where the HART and air vehicles are made. Though they are not exactly weapons they are an exterior feature of the ship. Doubly they can be exploited by enemy shuttles and MAXs as a boarding point inside the ship. HART Lifeboat If a ship suffers too much damage the captain may try to scuttle the ship. Abandon the ship cutting power to all systems including engines and life-support. All power is diverted to repairing the jump engines and making it recall to home world in a stream of NTUs for reconstruction. This is when the HART lifeboats become activated. The lifeboat acts as a HART shuttle dropping troops into a planet. Unlike a standard HART shuttle it can deploy troops from orbit. The lifeboats also move faster than HART shuttles making it harder to shoot down. However the lifeboat drops pods on the nearest planet or moon it can find leaving the passengers embarked no control over where they land. They can only hope to regroup and link up with allies on the surface. Standard HART shuttles can be activated into Lifeboat mode when the abandon ship call has been made.

Empire Design concepts.
Ok first for the empire navy prefix’s. (You know USS HMS IJN ect…) Republic Star Ships (RSS) is the (un)official designation for every starship in the Terran Republic Navy. ![]() Conglomerate Interstellar Vessel (CIV) Is the title all New Conglomerate Navy uses for its starship designation. ![]() Sovereign Vanu Navy (SVN) Is the name of the Naval wing of the Vanu Sovereignty military. ![]() Yes I know these are crappy starship image even for Microsoft paint. I am no artist. This is just a rough-rough sketch of exterior and color designs of the starships. Just a general skeleton if you may call it so. Republic Star Ships (RSS) are highly disciplined and well maintained. Their ships appear as a clean human ship at angles and such. The inside looks similar to Star Trek’s Federation vessels or Star Wars Imperial vessels. Exterior Design Concepts Interior Design Concepts ![]() Neat and tidy and human just like federation. Add Terran colors and you got a Terran Starship interior. ![]() I was hoeing for a darker color. Black and Grey are the colors of Terran Republic along with red. However this shows some of the clean texture that is the Terran discipline. Exterior Design Concepts ![]() This is about the right shape I am looking for. ![]() Gorn Starship from Star trek, but almost the right shape. ![]() This is about the type of side view Terran Starships should have. TR think Trapazoids. NC think rectangles, VS think Ovals. Conglomerate Interstellar Vessels (CIV) Have a more industrial look. They are more concern with function over form. So they don’t care if they can see pipes and conduits. As long as they know they can work, or be fixed when damaged. Then that’s all that matters. They don’t need to waste time or material covering up the hallways with neat and pretty panels. (immage Pillar of autmn from halo.bungie.org) removed becuase it was too large. This is the design for the blocky and bulky look of the New Conglomerate Navy. (sorry but the google image links were broken go watch Aliens and take a look at the Marine ship, then you get what I am talking about) The Marine Starship from the movie Aliens. Just the kind of design I want for Conglomerate Interstellar Vessels Interior Design Concepts ![]() Grates and pipes just like the Marine Ships from Aliens. that’s what I would like to see. Sovereign Vanu Navy (SVN) Ships have an alien feature to them. Their hulls and corridors have sleek curves that have an un-human and unearthly feel to them. This best defines the Alien character that is the Vanu Sovereignty. Exterior design concept ![]() This is a completely different game all together. So don’t be confused by the name Terran Republic. However I do like the shape and color scheme for the Sovereign Vanu Navy. ![]() ![]() I know these are shots jacked from HAL0 but how many purple alien round things as starship are out there? Besides didn’t you ever wonder where Sony got the Vanu color scheme? Not accusing them of anything or say they did a bad job. this is just something I want to similar to Vanu Starships. Interior design concept ![]() ![]() ![]() Once again the purple HAL0 covenant corridors. ![]() This alien corridor from star trek is the wrong color, but exactly the right shape for door ways. And no that isn't me this is some image I riped from google searching for something that could fit my idea.

I'll try to. But I have only scratched the surface for now. I still have to talk about the decks inside the ship and how this will relate with the current Planetside Universe (Which I hopes expands considerablly).
Eventually I'll have drafted plans for 24 classes of ships. (8 classes for each of the three empires.) However being by myself this will take some time. Hopefully by then SOE will invest a little more into Planetside or think about makeing a sequal with all the other goodies Hayoo has thought of.

I might do some 3D models of some of your ships, starting with NC because they are the easiest. I have never made models of star ships before though, new challenge.

Well I added the Battle Cruiser and Carrier's Arrmment placement. As I have stated to keep it ballenced the ships of the same class are the same size and arrmement. There isn't much diffrence between empires other than weapon types, shape, and color. I might try to think of some empire special abilities but for now I think these will do.
