New Sunderer Design
The underlying concept for the redesign is to give players a reason to choose a Sunderer over a Galaxy. The Galaxy for obvious reasons has far more advantages over the current Sunderer. (I'll go into detail more in my design doc) As such, I felt strongly that a redesign must surpass the current implementation in aesthetics, design, and most importantly in gameplay. This reasoning lead me to come up with one concept for each side. This is my first finished NC concept and the accompanying game design document is still being worked on and I'll post soon.
HIGHLIGHTS 1. Four slots on top for max units to defend the vehicle (the maxes are the turrets so the vehicle armament is customizable) 2. Max shields when mounted are siphoned to vehicle shields (each max mounted increases the vehicle shield pool) 3. Top speed ~70kph 4. Two 20mm MG are forward facing acting as anti-infantry and minor air defense 5. Two Seats on either side behind the antenna when occupied by a CR5 gives the vehicle ground radar. I used a program called sketchup to model and ideate the design then used photoshop to make the compositions, render, and add text.

Rear hatch opens up to the ground and forms a ramp. Entry slots would be lined across the back.
The small hatch on the side is the trunk. There are 2 hatches on the top of the cab. Figured I would add some ladder hooks that those guys would climb to get to the hatch. Similar to the current Sunderer design. I intend for 6 softies and 4 maxes to fit in the vehicle. |

Excellent!! Very cool design. I would seriously recert ground transport if they did that.
Now the only thing that needs to be added is a voice macro that makes it change into a robot v-b-t "Autobots Transform!" lol joking. |

That is correct, the four slots on top are for the max units to help defend the vehicle. I would think people might actually spec unimax and pull some falcons and load up the bus!

Thought I would give you guys a sneak peek at my Vanu version of the sunderer. Max turrets are going to be on the top. Rear is where the softie launcher is. Softie launcher ejects troops over wall.

I have to echo that remark: HAWT!
They should have put these in instead of BFRs. It would have made more sense: Heavy team-operated vehicles. I added your first images to the gallery, Chirp. I'll add these next two when I get back in town. A news update for the front page will go up soon once I finish the command window screenshots.

Very impressive work man.
However, players cant shoot from vehicles, the devs tried to implement it and failed with the phantasm. The NC one looks so good it makes me want to cry. The VS one... looks very cool, but I think that should be for the TR, the VS one should hover.

I messed around with hover designs and scrapped them all. Didn't like the way it was going. Wheels are just cooler. I am pretty sure they could get maxes shooting from vehicles if they wanted too. As a game developer for 11 years now I can think of several ways to get the effect. Besides I can still wish can't I?

Very nice designs!!! the VS one looks kinda like the batman truck from the new movie (batman begins) OR a similar APC to the one from the movie Aliens movie (Love that APC!) still love the screen shots. mybe make the TR one like a turtle?

All I have in my notes for the TR one is that it could carry 6 maxes. Visually, its going to be more round in design to reflect that aesthetic of the TR. But we will see when I get started on it how it changes.

I think you forgot to post the link. So I'll post some to compare. For the record, I didn't even have these things in mind when I was creating vehicles and I am flattered that my work can even be compared to such timeless designs.

It pains me that there is no longer an Art team for the game - nor the fact in a recent interview was there any mention of a desire to create another for the project - because these designs are just beautiful. While the NC version has a similar feel to their Enforcer buggy, the second type also follows the intimidating approach we have come to expect from Vanu technology.
Now, in reference to the TR. I'll admit it; I'm one of these players that sees the TR as the "underdog" empire, but to continue with that stigma constantly in anything ever built for the faction was absurd move by SOE... While this is not a rant, I would please ask that you respect this view that many of us share, and create a variant worthy of strength.

Well yeah, obviously they have a few people to make changes to stuff that already exists. I doubt the fact that they plan to introduce any of the larger ideas we have on this site, though.

Correct, they don't have the resources to make any of the big changes we want. :(
However, the new deployables are completely new designs, such as the one-man turret open to enemy fire, the electromagnetic force field generators, new katana knife, cloak bubble generator, and tank traps. The deployable medical and equipment terminals might be stand-alone versions of the current models or new models themselves, we don't know yet. The Galaxy gunship, A2A Mossie, and AA/AV Phalanx turrets will be existing models changed slightly. I'm anxious we get good numbers and generous word of mouth makes SOE see Planetside is worth investing more in for a more long-term art team, and thusly a second look at Sunderer options. I too appreciate the beauty in the current models and their application in game. So here's hoping.

But we would Roll more Vehicles, Wouldn't do much Vehicle combat how ever, we would all be Afraid to Sctatch the Paint of our Uber awesome Machines of war.
Would be Funny though, see all 3 Empires Lined up Ready for a battle Row on Row of Vehicles, then the Charge is called and everyone Rushs in on Foot for Fear of ruining Paint jobs
