I've see a lot of talk among you regarding new battle islands, so why don't we pool ideas here and maybe come up with some new clusters.

Here are my two:

Island One: Abyss

So I'm thinking a single battle island, over a massive, unsurvivable chasm. One base on either side, with this super-bridge spanning the room between them.

Each side of the bridge would be capped off with a Guntower, and the middle of the bridge would sport a watchtower, giving infantry the highground, and vehicles a place to repair/rearm (Remember, by this time, there would be ground vehicle silos on watchtowers).

The bridge would be very wide, but also covered in debries to give infantry on the move cover. Walkways along the sides of the bridge proper would give infantry a fighting chance at crossing without being vehicle wtfpwned.

Tactical Highlights
  • Both bases would be bio labs, to facilitate faster respawn of troops to swarm across the bridge.
  • Although infantry could cross the bridge proper, they'd stand a much better chance on the sheltered side walkways.
  • The watchtower gives the owners the only automated ground vehicle repair point on the Battle Island.
  • Aircraft could use the base pads for rearming, but you'd need dedicated engi crews to repair.
  • Gun towers would represent the final real "push" into the base. I would opt for an alternate Bio Lab design with the same functionality but reduced defenses, making the holding of the end towers all the more ciritcal.
  • This island would be balanced in the sense that infantry, ground vehicles and aircraft would all be important parts of the battle.
  • MA and Sniping would own the day when infantry squared off on the side ledges.
  • Snipers and AV users on the middle Watchtower would create a decisive foothold.
  • HA and SA would serve their purpose inside.


Island Two: Gravitara

This gravity shift continent is under a constant state of countdown. Every half-hour, the server checks which side has the most NTUs to determine the controller of the sole facility on the continent.

Nanites cannot be drawn from Warpgates (the logic being the gravity shift phenomonon.) The mission is to bring ANTs to the center of the island, where the NTU nexus sits.

The nexus will create only so many nanites per half-hour period. You have to continue to truck these back to your NTU silos. (you have multiple NTU depositories that are a great deal like towers.)

However, after the nexus is depleted, you must begin to steal these NTUs from the enemy depositories.

Whoever has the most NTUs at the end of the "cycle" wins control of the solitary base on the continent, achieving continental domination and flipping every tower to their side.

Please note that your island dosen't have to have a new ruleset like Gravitara. It could simply be a specific terrain type like the Oshur cluster.

I like them.

also i would like to see some new continits, BIG ONES! the battle islands are tiny. Why did they have to destroy OSHUR why not Ceryshen?
abyss sounds like the most fun.
although there is one improvement i have and thats for abyss. I would like to see abyss being fought over by more than 2 empires i dont actually have a way of doing that but can you plz weave that into your idea. maybe a triangle of some sort, i dont know
also i would likre to see a map with a large canal and bridges every 50 meters or something, or even abyss with 2 bridges to encurage sniping ect.

Looks pretty awesome, especially abyss. although I hope that concept art is not to scale,

I'd want the bridge to be so long that you can't see the other side even with full draw distance.

No, it would defenitely be an epic bridge. Probably a kilometer and a half, or so.

Actually, I think that is correct. *Boots up Halo* Its correct. But Planetside Abyss will be much better.

here we go... 1... 2.. 3....
(energy barge idea from HALO 2)
ok, this is an alian continit with islands hundreds of meters above the water, , the humans decided to build bases as this was a useful place for finding alian artifacts to harness their techcnology. it had working energy barges which are platforms that run on a "plasma rail" and can be from the size of an atv to the size of an island!(or just a big base) the energy barge tracks on the map are just the main ones the blue squares are stations for the barges the red squares are towers. the light green circles are the soi's to bases, (the heavy energy barges are HUGE several galixies can land on the top deck, each main track has 2 energy barge tracks which can make for a great fight, in fact if you want you can stop the barge and the gangways will deploy alowing access to another Barge! :) (some of the gangways can allow a tank to cross from one barge to the other!

on my next (more detailed) drawing i might put some platforms in the middle of the water with anchient towers on em'. th
at would be fun :)

thanks here is concept 2
plz note the "super tower" it has adv stuff like an air term
should large aircraft i.e. galixy, be able to cross from island to island or should there be some "bermuda triangle type force that brings it down? i mean this place was made by alians maybe they had a reason for barges....

Don't prevent all aircraft from crossing, just the Galaxy, Lodestar, and Liberator. That way it does require the use of the Barges but does not funnel the battles to set lines. Allowing Reavers and Mosquitos allows each side to strike the enemies back field. If you didn't then when the barges docked the people onboard would be destroyed before they get a chance to fire back.

so, basicly make a nateral magnetic feild that will start pulling you down but giving you a tiny window to recover.
in HAlo 2 my "energy barge" is called a gondola which sounds better?

Energy Barge sounds better, more high tech, but it should probably get a better name yet.

Yeah, there is a field that pulls to hard from anything but Reavers and Mosquitos to make it across. The other air craft could try but they will just fall faster than they can climb. They can attempt to lauch off the Barge before it docks but unless they are close enough at max altitude they won't reach the edge of the field; they would also be perfect targets for AA becaues they can't risk dodging the fire or else they may loose hope of reaching land.

this would probly be the closest to ship-to-ship battles without having ships :P
I also give this island chain the name---morvakia---(mor-vak-i-a) i would like to see some bases with entrances to mines with small robots digging, and alian artifacts, (like skulls 8) )just look like it was formoly inhabited by alians.

Break it down to the simple parts, the barges, tunnels, bases, ect. Give us a sample of everything you can to better illustrate the idea to us. Don't draw anything vast, just little snipits or camera shot like images of each thing.

maybe we could have 1 centeral floating island(AT) with 4 islands each with a base and the floating island would have the NTU stuff and we go with that.
we could also make the energy barges ReaLLY slow to make it eisier to intercept and destroy/capture ANT's in a "pirate style" way

an example of a tragic warpgate collapse
2 Human bases exist here this is the most isolated planet in "auraxis"
both bases have unlimited NTU :o
BOTH warpgates collapsed, preventing globel communication from reaching here, accept if you own the Relay tower in the crater you can here globel messeges withen a certain 400 meters (pretty far) because lack of warpgates neither bases were completed, vehicle terminals are left creating
- Harrassers
- ATV's
- Deliverers (& varients)
- sunderers
- AMSes
-NO ANT's (no warpgate= no purpose
- Assault Buggies
- Moskitoes (spelling :P ) (continit limited to 15 mossies per empire

this continit is made for infantry,
the only way to get here is to drop (or implement naval stuff)
the skydome shows a poluted sky, its similar to a "nuclear winter" because of the fallout from the warpgats collapsing.
when you control all the towers (and 1 base) (only 1) your capitol bases get Equipment modules, as well as bases DIRECTLY linked
i did not put geowarps in this picture but i am starting to want to
i would think this would turn the BFR-littered continits into a planetside-style infantry war

.this is the zone around the collapsed warpGATE (LOOKING OUT FROM TOWER)

maybe i should put alot of crators on the map, for the extra cover in the massive infantry battles :D
also i would like to see human crates lyinbg on the ground, and PERMANIT vehicle corpses (as decorations not when your lightning dies, the lightning stays there forever)

I have returned...
from city of heros, to BF2 to WoW then to half-life 2, I have returned... I have no intentions of ever playing planetside again but my HL2 experiences have given me some rather good Hammer skills which ill use to map out my urban outpost Idea and maybe some of the towers on this island to better illistrate it.
(plus I always felt this thread needed a bump)
feels good to be back, I kinda miss the old wishlist forum bt this works too.
