While this is a result of the thread for Sanctuary Strikes, it also has ties to my threads about Tower and Base-Variants, and the Guild Management thread.

Evregade, I've enjoyed listening to your ideas on facilities, and if Hayoo is ok with this, would you be willing to work with me (and possibly him) on producing different Sanctuary designs for each Empire? Since the three of us have really-well thought out ideas, as well as you and me have experience in making sketches/models for representation, it seems like the next step.

We could then submit it to SOE as part of the PlanetSide Idea Lab to see what they think of the idea, to give our design-community a little more publicity should they post it on the game's official site...

Im fine with that, also i have, from owning renegade, developed some Gmax skills, so i may even be able to model out a 3D textured render of each sanc (though about 3-6 days to make each). Im not the best at concept art though, but if you supply the 2D, I should be able to make it 3D.

Well I'm pretty sure I could sketch both the Tower and the Base-designs. I'll make you a deal, I'll build the Towers as models, and you can build the bases.

I'm worthless with modeling, but if there is any room for someone with building design and decorating, I'd like to help. Especially if you are considering adding the fortress concept, or at least a facility redesign for the Sanc.

These are examples of my designs.

NC - The NC strike me as a direct democracy, so I imagine they would have a massive amphitheatre complete with balconies, and a podium on the brightly lit stage. Two tables with 3? seats each would flank the podium. Ramps would allow easy access to the podium, so that speakers could change easily. A rotating NC logo hologram would float just above and behind the speaker to remind people they are fighting for freedom. The back wall would feature an NC flag, as well as have two hallways to "dressing rooms" complete with equipment terms and a locker.

VS - Vanu players are welcome to offer changes for this one, but I feel that the VS are an oligarchy of the elite scientists and thinkers. However, they would probably welcome thoughts from the other members. Either way, my idea for their "throne room" is to have a circular cavern, similar to the Senate scenes in Star Wars Episode I. Balconies would be mounted all over the walls, which means plenty of stairwells behind the walls to reach them. In the center of the room would be a raised dais, upon which would be 14? seats in a circle. A massive Vanu logo would hover 12 meters above the center of the dais, inspiring those assembled to strive towards knowledge. The walls will shimmer and glow like cavern crystal, and a glowing blue panel should rest on the ground beneath the hologram

My ideas on the outside of the fortresses

And great idea on the fortresses, this is what i would immagine.

NC- Ramps and Stairs to each level, several balconies, and plenty of causeways, giving it a very "open" feeling to the structure's internals, and a outer wall made of plate titanium, very blocky and defensive looking to match NC's acrhitecture. The outside should seem as though it is an impenetrable wall. Turrets rest at odd angles, giving a random appearance to a system that provides a startling defense.

TR- More Smooth than NC, with inner stairways to get up levels, and only small windows here or there. The outer wall would act as more of a dome than a wall. Almost completely surrounding the inner structure to give a dark and controlled feeling. Very sharp contrast to the other two in that all architecture is designed to enspire respect and attention, rather than creativity or freedom. The outer dome is a smooth black concrete dome. Turrets are built into the design for maximum use of space. (or the house from the Beverly Hillbillies, whatever you like* :P* )

VS- Flowing architecture, made from the Ancient Tech alloys. The building seems less a building and more something that grew up from the ground, twisting into a protective shell around the crystal shaped inner sanctum. Spars of alloy jut out to form walkways and soft glowing hues of teal and purple. Perhaps even streams and rock gardens to enspire thought. In sharp contrast, the outside would seem thorny and formidable. As though the building would lash out at enemies at any given moment. Turrets would be attached to the ends of the spires that jut out of the outer walls, making each deadly spike be used to its maxiumum extent

Whoops. Somehow I missed this thread. :)

I'll make some sketches too for how I envisioned the sanctuary capitols. Don't know when I can get to them, but I'll post them to the Sanc Cap WIP section. Perhaps we can work together on designs.

I should make a reminder that most of the stuff on Idealab is interconnected and interdependent, e.g. Empire Tech Levels <--> Sanc Capitols <--> Urban Outposts <--> NTU Changes <--> Medevac <-->Supply Lines <--> Empire Tech Levels, etc. So I'm all for collaborating, but I'd hate to artificially force our concepts to mesh with what's on Idealab. I want you guys to be as free as possible with your ideas. Let's just see where it takes us and if it fits it fits, and if it doesn't we will publish it in the Idea Emporium (or whatever we call the joint ventures) which will be our main repository of polished concepts for the Devs to review.

Yeah I know, that's why I've been talking to my buddies at PSU on this idea. This also has a poll, so anyone who hasn't voted here yet please do so, as it allows me to work out how many fans on these Forums enjoys the thought of the project.

I've been talking about it to them now and then for a few months, but since it is finally nearing HL2's release date in November (probably), it would be a nice addition to the Idea Lab on the PSU network of hosted sites. I'd most likely do the first AGN braodcast as a test to begin with, as it would give me and anyone who wanted to help time on using the game's engine and XSI.

BTW, I'll be posting up some (if not all 3) Tower-Variants and the little 'NTU-Buggy Drone' tomorrow.
