This is a repost from PSU. Basically, integrating community functions into actual working terminals in the base itself. Naturally, any OHQ would have access to these terminals. Also, any non-base specific terminals would be avaliable in the outfit's Barracks at sanc.
Communications: Found in or near the lounge, this terminal would allow for in-game email and message board systems for the resident outfit(s). Callender: In the entry room, the Callender is a planning tool for upper level commanders in an outfit to post specific operations on a specific date. Could be filtered by outfit rank as well. Normal users could "enlist" for a mission and have their name added to a roster. Later, a provision could be added for enemy hackers subverting this system and learn bits of info at a time. Admin: You could roll this into the main terminal, but it would probably feed more of a "living" base concept if it were placed elsewhere, maybe in the catacombs. This allows for high-ranking officers in an outfit to promote, set privledges and view logs of outfit credit expendatures. (Still do-able from the outfit window, just consolidated for ease of access.) Would double as a "profile page" for users without access to the admin section, allowing them to post location (real-world), Time zone, email or instant messaging contact info, ect, into a place where admins could view it. Lounge: The lounge should get some more stuff. Let users "sleep" in the beds, logging them out of the game, and making them spawn back at the OBO when they log back on (assuming it's still under empire control.). Implement a small mini-game for play on the holotable, and maybe even implement a trading card game in the game that players could play at the table. Give players a reason to garrison their OHQ on downtime. Systems: Ranking users (set by officers through the "Admin" Terminal) can upgrade base facilities with this terminal, and ANYONE (of the outfit or not) can use this to view the status of any feature of the base. More advanced features could be manual allocation of NTUs for repair, and swapping of barrels on turrets... at the cost of outfit credits, of course. (Again, only able to be done by a member given permission by an officer on the "admin" terminal.) Note: For the non-base specfic terminals, duplicates would be at sanctuary with full functionality for baseless outfits. Any outfit can access a bare-bottoms version of their "outfit network" through any friendly base's terminals, but for full functionality, they'll have to use the sanctuary terminals or their own OBO's. (Think of the old PSU forums. That's what you'd be able to access in the communications terminal from another outfit's owned base terminals. This new and improved forum would only be accessable from sanctuary or your Outfit's OBO). In short, what I am asking for: 1- Put a sense of community in-game. Think the Tribes 2 community browser. Only implement it in a way that makes the bases feel more like places where soldiers garrison, sleep, and live. 2- Give me a reason to want to stay in my outfit base when it's not under attack. Let me do things with my fellow outfit mates that go beyond shooting up the enemy. I'm not asking for The Sims Online here, but just some small diversions that would go nicely with the OBO concept.

The sad part, is that i had forgotten about it in the last two weeks...
In the current build on the test server the Outfit pane is slightly different. You guys should check it out. Oh and anyone may cut and paste my work on the outfit improvements, Just as long as I'm some how informed, because I used ideas from several other people so its more of a community idea. |

I agree. I read your idea thread before I started working on these and I kept thinking as I worked.."if we add all this function to the outfit screen for any member at anytime, then what's the point of going back to Barracks except to get Outfit-specific weaponry?"
So yeah, perhaps we can have some of the in-depth tabs go gray until you access an Outfit terminal. Sure some will say "why do we have to be back at Sanc?" And we can just say "tough." :)

Yay :D
Just one issue: change "In Squad" should be changed to "Looking for Squad". Sometimes I just want to solo for a half-hour or so. That way, if I don't have my LFS tag on, I probably won't get an invite from my outfit that I'll have to explain myself to. On that note, I'd like to brainstorm up a new LFS / LFSM interface, with integration with the Task Force system. Any starter ideas?

It could even be Looking for Taskforce Members (LFTM). There's already a Looking for Commander area on the Commanders List there and Task Force leaders can advert for more units to join by listing themselves as Looking for Units (since unit can represent an individual, a squad, or platoon). Thoughts?

That works fine. How about a way for individual commanders to search for certain players to meet a certain type of squad contributing to an overall Task Force.
For example, a squad leader in charge of a Armor squad could search for players with Engineering or Advanced Technician to better contribute to his Task Force as armor. Also, what tool are we giving the Technician to dispense NTUs?

Even if we were assigned to the unit, we'd need to have those certs in order to join the squad in-game. This allows detail-oriented Outfits to customize what they feel is the perfect squad for a certain mission, and be garaunteed to know what assets are at his disposal. Lots of opportunities for customization there.

the only thing i actively miss from the in-game outfit tools is the ability to see who's online in other outfits.
when i'm trying to solicit an outfit invite, i feel like a hardcore newbie wandering around sanc yelling "hey, does anyone here know anyone in sons of vanu?" also, and more often, i find myself trying to find officers in other outfits in our alliance when i'm commanding, so we can put together an alliance platoon... that's even worse. "is anyone here from gotr, ac, prg, cs, c22 xoo, wtf, or rns here?"

I think it's the Organization Pane Here's a quick mockup for Alliance roster. However I think Alliance needs it's own button, not a tab. Because within that group would have to be an Alliance Info, Alliance Roster, and Alliance Bases tabs. I'll have to work on those later. Too tired. :) ![]()

I love these ideas! When you talk about barracks layouts, do you mean the outfit leader would design it? If that were so, there would be a large demand on info storage for SOE (The main reason we don't have all the cool stuff we want <_< <_< <_< ).
The outfit barracks at sanc should have some kind of terminal outside for people interested in joining to read its mandate. This terminal should also be a place for the prospect to leave their name if interested (Their name would be removed if they left it at an other outfits barracks or they joined with another outfit). |

And you could make it so allied outfits could build there barreks on to there allies one like by 1 door in between makeing a big place for people to organize and get ready in squads like said.
But they would need to make makeing Outfits harder or make the barreks rilly expensive in outfit points that you need to pay weekly (only biger outfit could afford them makeing less buildings out there and less storage for SOE) |

Remember that barracks are located in Sanctuary, or Sanctuary Moons, so there's really no limit to the number of Outfit zones they can make for outfit housing. It would be very hard to do, but I like Hayoo's idea. One time when we were on a couple of weeks ago, at least five outfits were all doing recruitment videos in PS.
If people are willing to go to all that trouble to recuit new members, SOE could at least consider the possibility that it's because they want to separate themselves off from lone soldiers.

Sorry to bring up old ideas, but I was thinking on how that Outfit Base could act as an alliance system as well. (That is if they use your proposal of 10 outfits per base). Then all the Outfits that share a base would be considered an Alliance.
However sony's proposal is 1 outfit per base. That will destroy that proposal. Also what about bases on enemy homes? Any incentives to put a base on a contenant that is conected to an enemy sanc?
