Edit: Re-organized by image type

All posted vehicle images are relative in scale to one another.


Top-Down View (Transparent background):

Now a question: Should I post these at their present sizes to give concept designers the freedom to shrink them or should I make them smaller to begin with so I can fit more to a page? :P

And another thing! Should I post the vehicles like now with all types of images together for each vehicle or should I post them by type...all transparents together, all black silhouette's together, regardless of the vehicle?

It would probably be better if you grouped simialr types together, rather than by vehicle type.

Definatly keep them the size they are, as then people get the choice to shrink them, if needs be.

Makes it quicker for people to download the entite thing I guess.

Also, if you have the time (I understand if you dont) include the front and side silhouettes if you can.

Yeah, by type would probably be better. Plus I can update each section independantly of the others.

I'll definatly be doing side and fronts, although they won't be perfect because of the fish-eye warping that happens in-game. For example, the Lodestar is so big that with any side view you'll see both tails. I'll have to do some minor photoshoping with those, but I doubt it'll be a problem.

I'll have to do some work with the other empires as far as scaling since I usually play NC. Lots to do in the future for this section. To say any help is fantastic would be an understatement. :lol:

Oh, yes, almost forgot. I also have small radar images for most vehicles that I'll post. Could be useful if anyone wants to do radar concepts or do tactical diagrams in the future.

That would be awesome, having VS colors on the silhouettes too. Anything you can get would be great. I can size them so they're scaled to the other vehicles on the page. Even if it's a longterm project, that's cool. There's no rush since this Library will be around for a long time. :)

I'll see what I can do to help as well. I've got a TR character on the test server with all the vehicle certs (except BFRs and Air Cav), so I can run the Emp Spec vehicles over to you for you to take the snapshots. That character is also an Adv Hack, so if you require TR skins for the other empire's vehicles, gimme a yell.

Be warned, I'm in the UK so our times might not mesh, but give me a time and date (remeber to add the appropriate time Zone), and I'll see what I can do.

Yeah, Im a brit too, so if we meet up one night at around 7pm EST, which is Midnight for us Brits, that cool with you Straws?

We could just meet near a base and get vehicles, swapping the colours by hacking them?

TheVindicator is an ad hack too, so that simpifies things.

Just for reference, how I took the top-down images was to use the Liberator bomb camera, but that's probably an obvious method.

Anyway, I've added the enforcer, vanguard, sunderer, lodestar, galaxy, lightning, and ams top-down images. The scales aren't perfect but they're close enough for concept work, I think.


I've been thinking about the GIFs. Should I change the black on white to a transparent background instead? And eliminate the color on white background entirely? And how is the transparency looking to you guys? I want to make them as clean as possible, no white "articles" seen along the edges and such when placed against a dark area.

Wow, looking good, thanks. I have TR+NC chars on Werner and TR+NC chars on the test server (TR test avec BFR ;)) I work on GMT.

NC - Test - Hillzor

I don't think a white BG is needed, it's easy to add one if we need to, just use transparent BG's.

@ Hayoo, I take it you use photoshop to edit the images, could you PM me instructions of how to save images with transparency pls. I've tried many times but it won't work. (I did get it to work with .TGA and alpha map once)

K, I've removed the white-background ones and will be converting the black silhouettes to transparent backgrounds. I also added the ANT and skyguard black silhouettes.

Pyrotechnic, I actually use Macromedia Fireworks for most of my Idealab images. It's a vector-based program that bridges the gap between photoshop and web graphics, even Flash. Very handy software.

But to make transparent images in Photoshop is pretty simple. Just create a new image with a transparent background and place the element in a separate layer on top. Go to your save for web settings, select as GIF image, and check the transparency box. Save and presto. You might have to tweak the transparency settings so that holes don't appear in your image, but all in all it should work.
