Video Games Experience Brain Drain (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=581&ncid=581&e=1&u=/nm/20040328/tc_nm/biztech_games_dc_1)
It seems that the video game industry is having a hard time coming up with new material. I'm afraid I must agree. Yes, there's a lot of new and wicked cool games out there, for the various platforms, but they're all the same themes over and over. Take the Crazy Taxi idea. It's been spun into True Crime, Simpson's Road Rage, Crazy Taxi 2, 3, etc. The only difference is the entertainment factor from seeing Evil Homer instead of Slash. I certainly would be interested in new material, however, I do have a penchant for the classics. I love the compilation games on a new system...like with Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES...I'd like to see more of that. And, I think it'd be interesting to see original games redone on new systems. For instance, I'd like to see Zelda II: The Adventures of Link, from NES, done on Game Cube in 3D...a bit more interactive, and more like Ocarina of Time. There definately needs to be more new games, instead of reverting to movies and remakes/sequels all the time.
And yes, I love the classics...Goldeneye, Mario, and Zelda rock!

It's getting there, I'll give you that. Still, Super Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt, Paper Boy, Zelda I & II....those are classics (I wish I had gotten into Atari, oh well)

Well I wouldn't really agree... yes, there are a lot of shitty games out there, no doubt about it. But I think at all times there are literally hundreds of really crappy games out there. Then, just as now, gamers wandered the shelves at game shops searching for a decent title. It’s part of the market… there are a lot of shitty developers out there.
Not every game is a winnar. And shut up Lithion, Goldeneye was the shit in its day.
Long live Half-Life and Halo! Bring me Half-Life 2 and Halo 2!

dude, it's day was, like, last week. a requirement for "classic" is "old."
anyway, games i've found DO have some new material (at least to me) recently:
planetside
splinter cell: puppy helmet
those that don't, but are fun anyway:
painkiller
far cry

Goldeneye - Released on 7/31/1997 - that's old enough for me.

Are they even making games for N64 anymore? I've not heard of any new releases as of late...
Because the end of production is usually grounds for making certain games classics...

Everything under licensed Nintendo development right now (in console) is for the 'cube.

Exactly why I said that Goldeneye is considered a classic game now.
N64 = archaic.
