Hello everyone,
I'm Toumal, BR17 on Werner, and I'd like to ask for help for Project Indigo.
This is a project built using a modified (CG-shaders, etc.) version of the Torque Game Engine.
The idea is to take the gameplay elements of PS that work, change the things that don't, and basically be able to add all those things we'd like to have in the future. Indigo is currently in pre-alpha stage, which means that it's a barebone shooter with vehicles and the capability to travel from zone to zone (i.e. from server to server). Basic account database interaction is present and working as well.
The next steps are to implement basic base-capture gameplay, implement a basic variety of vehicles and weapons, and get the project into a playable state. Even without award-winning 3d models it should prove that a free alternative is possible - and good modelers will be attracted by the playable alpha itself.
I myself am a full-time programmer (though sadly not in the game business) and have been working with the Tribes 1, Tribes 2 and Torque engines in my spare time for many years. I have a full Torque license, something that YOU do not have to have since we're talking about scripting here. Basic C++, C or even PHP knowledge is all you need. The scripting language is very straightforward but also very powerful.
If you're interested, you can read a bit more here: http://www.playspoon.com/wiki/index.php?title=Indigo
