So did Daytona get hit bad?

It was expected to hit us bad in Manatee County but it decided it would rather go after Ft Meyers.

Yeah, Daytona got pwned pretty hard - roofs were blown off, powerlines were snapped in half, trees impaled people's walls and ceilings, windows were blown out, people were electrocuted, it was a mess.

Power is back on at Riddle, but will be off mostly everywhere else until tomorrow. That's what they tell us, anyhow!

Yeah... RDU was supposed to get 50+ mph winds... we got shit... it was actually quite upsetting.

...people were electrocuted...

Any details on how that happened?

I'm still without power, and spending this lovely time in Gainesville. Sierra Hotel, are you from Manatee County?

Timma!!

I'm glad you're alright, nerd.

You're welcome to come back to KDAB and crash at our place... just 'cause the carpet's a little damp doesn't mean the place isn't awesome!

Sort of, I graduated high school from here. I have never lived in one place very long, but Manatee County, is the place that I have spent the second most amount of time.

The winds of Frances aren't bad yet, 20-30mph, but we're not expected to get hurricane force sustained winds, but gusts could reach 80mph or so. This is gonna be cool...

Do keep us posted on the actual impact in Daytona Beach - I'd like to know when to come home, and what to expect upon return!

Still... more... wind... this is pathetic... for right now... But I'll try to keep you posted as long as I have power and intarnet

1 am... a strong rainband is about to sweep through Daytona, the wind is picking up as Frances inches closer to the coast, the rains are coming down harder... now for the good stuff... power is still on... but for how long??

eccentric4
2004.09.05, 1235
It's 830 adn the power is still on, albeit barely... it's been flickering since 4am, my battery backup is going nuts. Winds have kicked up to steady 60mph, and the rain is unbeleiveable. This is more like it!! A little damage, few trees down, mostly limbs, traffic lights blown off, etc. Fun stuff!!

Wow, be safe, and keep the reports coming in!

Well, it's 530 on Thursday night, still don't have power here at the Harbor Apts, though the REST OF DUMPTONA does... lost power at 11am on Sunday, and the constant temperature in this apartment is, oh, a nice, warm 90 degrees. But the days at the beach make up for the long hot nights. This post was brought to you by some guy next door with a generator... damn noisy thing... I'm going home for the next one, taking my compys and guitars, and going home... The hurricane itself is nothing, it's actually pretty cool... but the after effects, no power, no water, the heat, the uneasiness, the flaring tempers... it sucks. I've had enough of that BS...

What does everyone in Florida thinks is going to happen with Ivan?

Martyr and I are tentatively planning on leaving Charlotte on Tuesday, but if Ivan threatens to plow into Florida, then I guess we'll be extending our stay up here!

I think it's going to go the way of Charley, and my other idea is that it will follow I-75N with no regard for stoplights along the way. Do either of you have classes on Mon or Tuesday? Tentatively, I plan on leaving Florida on Sunday if this threatens Flordia at all, I'm not sticking around for more heat and no power. By the way Florida Power and Light says it'll take 7 days to get ONE FREAKIN' apartment complex back online... What boggles my mind is that the power has come on here three seperate times... I'm normally a patient person, but I guess the heat is starting to get to me...

Yeah, the heat drove us nearly crazy after Charley. We had some clever methods to keep cool - soak washcloths in water, then put them all over your body to fall asleep.

Martyr and I both have classes Monday and Tuesday, but I'll be emailing my professors tomorrow to let them know that we'll be at least missing Monday and Tuesday. If Ivan looks like it's going to bite us, then we'll obviously be staying longer. I'm sure our professors will understand.

Of course, this is assuming Riddle even stays open.

Latest track puts Ivan right up the middle of Florida.... not good... it's 9am Friday morning, and the power has JUST come on... I'm wondering if it'll actually stay this time... too scared to turn anything on...

i hate hurricanes. this is retarded.

Well, word is that they have bused all the pilots [of the planes they flew up to Alabama or wherever] back to Florida... and left the planes where they're at. That to me seems like an indication they will cancel classes this week as well because of Ivan, whose track keeps getting closer and closer to royally screwing Daytona...again... But no word yet on Riddle's decision...

We call it Hurrication, or a Hurricane Vacation. I love this 3 days of class, and two weeks off, it's great! And I'm flying home tomorrow morning, so I'll talk to you guys on the flipside! [yeah, cheesy, I know, but I'm very dairy tolerant] {yeah, I know, even cheesier, the way I like my pizza} (Okay, I'll stop with the cheesy craziness)

Went riding the waves of Jeanne Friday night... big 10 footers were pummeling us...I rode one good 12 footer which actually dropped me, and then fell on top of me... it was soooo awesome, I thought I was gonna die! Wooooo!!!
