View Full Version : Laptop
I'm looking to buy a new laptop. I don't need anything extremely fancy (looking to spend about a thousand). If the system is worth it, i'd be willing to go to 1500. Anyone have any suggestions? It doesn't have to be PS worthy, but if there's a system that can run it well, that's all the more fun. I've been hearing a lot of mixed reviews about cyberpowerinc, but they're looking like they'll give the most for the least...
Just a few other basics
AMD or Intel
GeForce or Radeon
standard ram or something like corsair xms
IBM gave me at ThinkPad T40. It's a great machine - solid and has yet to crash on me. It can even play WoW at pretty decent settings.
Hows the T40 with planetside? I was thinking of getting one of the machines in the T40 line.
Those T series are expensive. The intel 1.7 model i was looking at had a base of 1900.

Unfortunetly I haven't play PS in over a year... but I assume based on how other games seem to run it would run at par. To give you an example, PS ran fairly well on my old AMD 1800+ w/ a GF4 Ti4400 and this laptop seems to run about the same level as that.

Hmm, I bought an ACER 1714, it was amzing, like a desktop crammed into a laptop body (P4 3.4GHz, 120GB desktop HDD) then the GFX card was faulty, back it goes, get's fixed, then the whole thing died, and it took them 6 WEEKS to upgrade the RAM and send me a replacement. So, ACER are fine, right up to the point something goes wrong and you send it back. I wish I could afford a Falcon Northwest model, P4 3.8GHz!

the setup above is from cyberpower. I'm hung up on whether it'd be a wise purchase. they only offer a 1 year warranty on notebooks, and my luck always runs that stuff breaks after the warranty expires. I've found some very negative comments on their customer service department regarding PCs, but i can't find anything about the notebooks. I did a live chat with a rep who said that 1-2% of the notebooks will have problems within 1 year of the warranty expiring. Anyone have any experience (personal or from a friend) that can help me out?
