Are there plans to, or ability to for that matter, display some of the new stats added in yesterday's patch ? Be nice to see the assists and all included in our numbers.

thanks

none. sony has to post them before stats.net can utilize them, and sony has no intentions of making them available.

well if that doesn't bite the big one.

A lot of us use the support role - and would be nice to see.

thanks for the response.

Why dont SOE make them available?

Because it odly takes more than the devlopers puting into the next patch. It takes a joint effort at SOE of multiple teams.

If they can get a news feed...why not a stats feed.

news feed is much easier - they just output their java's feed to xml. heck, it probably comes in that way.

adding stats, though, is a whole 'nother story.

it would take the coordination of the database team with the web team under direction of the planetside team. neither the web nor the db team are available at the discretion of the PS team, because they're SOE corporate resources, and of greater importance and demand than the PS team itself is; so the PS team has very little throw when it comes to giving them tasks.

getting all three teams together at once ... it would be like getting trying to have microsoft release a version of windows for the sparc or ultra64 processor to be run in new powerbooks.

while the teams aren't exactly in competing markets like apple, ms, and sun microsystems, their time and resources are allocated by an even more competitive corporation, limiting flexibility and reducing liklihood of developing the services we need.

Because the news feed is fed off HTML and has been in place with out changes.

So SOE fumbled the ball way back in the day, and it's too late to pass intercept. GG.

this is the case in a lot of areas that still plague us. facility redesigns, for example. the bases are pretty much stuck in the landscape and have a lot of code constraints (shortcuts around the engine, or so it seemed at the time) that would require a massive overhaul to ready for new bases. and by that, i mean lots and lots of time and money.

bottom line is that it's possible but very hard. samhayne and i share the sentiment that it's better to fix game bugs, create events, and add content than it is to spend valuable and limited resources on features that are conveniences rather than gameplay enhancements.
