View Full Version : Veteran Rewards in PlanetSide
From what I am given to understand the new HSR is only available to players with characters who have recieved the 2 year service merit.
What is your opinion on Vet Rewards in PS?
I'm fine with it, seeing as it's going to be made available to everyone eventually.
Plus, it's not all that great.
Now, if they got something like say the Lasher in terms of power.... that's another story.
i like it. rewarding the dedicated players is something really important, as they had been rewarding new players (BFRs) previously.
all in all, i think merits are awesome, including the vet ones.
I voted no, not because its a bad idea, but because SOE can't possibly keep it without messing it up, the HSR is fine. But what will the next one be?
Well, i'm fine that they are promoting veterans, but they are promoting veterans of players, and not the game. I was really pissed when they said they were only giving it to 2 year old characters, and not 2 year old accounts. Why do they reward loyalty to your character instead of loyalty to planetside?
That too, I don't understand that stipulation...although, with multiple characters per server, it might be a concern.

DIE FOURTH EMPIRE DIE!!!!
;-)
Rewarding, yes.
Easy access rewards with no restrictions, not so much.
hardly a better reward, imo. i agree with it, because in really reinforces accomplishments outside the xp system. that can really improve the character/player retention power of the game, as well as encouraging medium- or long-term specialization.
the new toys, meanwhile, are hardly new or ground-breaking, they're only minor factors in the game. other weapons and vehicles do the same jobs already.
mosteel, i've been NC since i've started the game, but what happened is during the server merges my character was deleted...one of the lucky few.
I'm just giving you BS. ;)
Veteran rewards are good; but I feel they need to stay away from weaponry. I know the HSR isn't that great, but it pisses me off knowing that some 2 year player who may have never before certed for sniper gets to use it before me, who was been doing it for a year and a half. People have been saying that it will become available based on merits soon... It should have been based on merits initially. An inventory expansion or a grenade holster would be better.

heres my oppinion ( posting from somwhere else other then *my* computer ):
the HSR rewards loyalty to planetside, however they cant base it on account status because of the fact that if you make a new char that is on a 2 year or more account, there you go...new sniper rifle right off the bat....you wouldnt want that, would you?
kinda defeats the purpose......
this also rewards being on your char for longer periods of time and using it because its not a 2 shot kill wep, it takes pure skill to kill with it in the heat of battle.

heres my oppinion on it, it will reward loyalty to planetside, however it shouldnt be based on account status and time because of the fact that if you have a 2 or even 3 year account with soe, make a new char and you have a sniper rifle off the bat....it defeats the rifle's set role, VETERAN REWARD.
that and it takes skill to use.
shit, sorry for the 2 post, didnt see it at first, lmao
I think the 2 year awar should have been 'Elite Armor'. Same proection as Rexo, and same speed, but with an ankle holster, new appearance, and another level of inventory space.
I think BR23 CR5 should have unique armor with built in CUD and a special Helmet (or maybe a cape since most of them play super-hero-one-man-army). I think those players should be visible. They should be targets for snipers and infantry. The two year veteran should also get a distinguishing mark that can be seen from a distance. Perhaps different upper torso armor color.

That would rock
...visible knife-holster anyone? Lil reward for killing said vet. Plus it would be badass to see someone pull out a damned knife from some holster on them.

The obvious answer: Make the location empire specific.
VS: Right or left arm under where the CR3/4 armpad would go.
NC: Chestplate, pull it out handle down at first, and flip it around in mid-animation of pulling it
TR: Left upper arm above the elbow
The VS one seems fitting for a "futuristic" soldier, NC feels more "freedom fighter" type (paranoid, your enemy is everywhere), while TR one is "all business" so to speak.

One of the downsides of the arguments against the 2 year service award is that it comes off as an immature whine, "Woe is me, they have something that I can't have", rather than a criticism that the process by which these weapons are aquired might further imbalance the game.
I think Rahl's ideas are great (would there be a performance hit for that?).
As long as Sony takes the time in rolling out merit rewards and service rewards it'll be all good.
