try direct3d instead?

MasterCalaelen

Forgot to mentioned i'm a big big nub.

What's direct3d? How do I get it?

MasterCalaelen

Ok, Direct3d is something similar to OpenGL.
Found that on Google lol.

Let me see if I can get site to download it from.

MasterCalaelen
2005.05.25, 1414
BTW, do you think it would run on Direct3d if it asks for OpenGL ?

Bah, can't find any working sites that I can download it from =(

I believe the game is OpenGL only, from what I remember.

Also, rule out that its a bad install by reinstalling the game. If that doesnt solve the problem, reinstall your latest graphics driver - it should include the OpenGL drivers. Again - if that fails, your graphics card most likely doesnt support OpenGL.

In my personal opinion, from reading your error log, it looks like your graphics card doesnt support OpenGL. Mainly because it finds the OpenGL driver on your computer and fails to get it to function. I'd go through my first steps though, just to make sure.

I've reinstalled the game 3 times, so that can't be the problem.

I'll try to reinstall the drivers, if I can find out how =(

And I've played JKII on this computer, with this Video Card before, but not after my computer crashed. I reinstalled Windows and everything else than. Do I have to manually download OpenGL from someplace?

*EDIT*

Could you help me a bit with the driver reinstalling Starburn? Never done it and I'm afraid i'm going to fuck something up or break something =(

driver (re)installation is easy, just download the program from the manufacturer and run it

Sorry, will do.

*EDIT*

Ok, going to install the new drivers now, wish me luck, if you don't hear from me in 5 min. call First Aid with Driver Installation please =p

*EDIT2*

I installed the Drivers and it said I had to reboot, but when I did my computer wouldn't start up again. I used the last working setup option to get my computer to start up again.

I fail at computers =(

Any ideas what I can do now?

Think I got the Drivers installed properly afterall, but the game still doesn't work.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do now?

<--- Sad little panda now that he's got a broken game =(

Check to make sure your video card is working up to snuff for OpenGL by checking this out..

http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/

Run the standard base install and check that your video card is 100% compatible.

Make sure that your using the latest video and sound card drivers that are supported by your sound and video card manufacturers.

Make sure the 3D hardware acceleration is turned all the way up.
1) Right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties.
2) Select the Performance tab and click the Graphics button.
3) Make sure the acceleration slider is set to Full.

For Windows XP:
1) Click on the Start button > Settings > Control Panel.
2) Double-click the Display icon.
3) Click the Settings tab.
4) Click the Advanced button.
5) Click the Troubleshoot tab.
6) Make sure the acceleration slider is set to Full.

Also try setting your desktop settings to 640 by 480 and High Color (16 bit).

Make sure that your running a clean boot with no background files running as well.

If after trying the above solutions the game still does not work, check the following:
1) Click on the Start button > Run and in the run box type "Sysedit" without the quotes and click the OK button.
2) When Sysedit comes up you should see a bunch of cascaded windows, select the window that says Win.ini above it.
3) The Win.ini window should come to the foreground, scroll through the list of items until you come to [DrawDib].
4) Look for a line under [DrawDib] that says DVA=0 and remove it.
5) Click File, then Save and close the Sysedit program.
6) Try the game at this point.

If you do not see the DVA=0 line under the [DrawDib] section, then this is not the cause of your problem. DVA stands for Direct Video Access, and is commonly set to 0 to fix issues with older games or video problems with old software. The only way to fix this is to remove that line. This should not affect anything on your system.

Ok, really getting pissed now.

I felt Star Warsish so I installed Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy since JKII wasn't working, but now I get the same error.

I've played JKII and JK:JA for almost 2 years, and now I get this lame error that I've never had before.

I'd appreciate all the help I can get, since I know for sure that my computer and video card can run those games....

I've got the latest drivers and my 3d hardware acceleration is all the way up.
I also downloaded the program and installed it, but I don't know what to look for when the window pops up.

How can I see if my vid card is 100% compatible?

*EDIT*

I checked under the Test area in the window, and it said passed for the first 2, and failed for all the others.

Don't know if I did it right, since it just kept on going and going.......

*EDIT2*

I tried going to 640x480, but it wouldn't go below 800x600 so I tried did, but it didn't work either.

It's listed under the core features you'll see something like...

1.1 (100% - 7/7)
etc...

What does it say there?

Also 2.0 is something you can disregard since the game isn't going to be using anything from that pool really.

Also what video card are you using and do you have another video card you can test with?

I'm using a GeForce Ti 4200 and no, I don't have any other video cards.

Ok, under Core Features:

v1.1 (100 % - 7/7)
v1.2 (12 % - 1/8)
v1.3 (0 % - 0/9)
v1.4 (0 % - 0/15)
v1.5 (0 % - 0/3)
v2.0 (0 % - 0/8)

I ran the Test thing, but I aborted it after like 1000 frames, since it just kept giving me the spinning OpenGL logo. So I don't know if I did it correct.

Isn't there a .CFG file for Jedi Knight?

If so could you post the contents?

MasterCalaelen
2005.05.25, 1655
Did the last thing you said aswell, but there isn't even an [DrawDib] under the tab so =\

Lemme look up the .CFG

*EDIT*

You mean this?

[ActiveNet]
Cmdline=
Name=Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

SinglePlayerVersion=1.02a
ShellOpts=

[Version Info]
Version=1.0
QA=2557
Branch=0.0

[Product Info]

*EDIT2*

Also, do you think updating to a newer patch for the game might work?

I really have to get to work now, else I'll be too late.
Thanks a LOT for the help so far man, even though it still doesn't work.
If you have any other ideas on how to fix it, post them here so I can check them when I get back from work please.

I'll keep you updated about if I get it to work or not =)

Hmm...definately looks like the drivers are fubared

Try downloading driver cleaner from www.guru3d.com and clean out those drivers then get a fresh install of the following driver.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_56.72.html

Those 5672 drivers seem to work pretty well on the older geforce cards.

Can't seem to find any driver cleaners there, I see Crap Cleaners, Computer Cleaners, but no Driver Cleaners.

You wouldn't happen to have a name of the "product" would ya Joel?

Alright, reinstalling my drivers has done the trick in getting my video card up and running and it also took care of the OpenGL subsystem error.

I tried playing JKII, but it gave me a grey screen, and it would crash.
So I tried 640 by 480 resolution and 16-bit colors, and than it worked.

I can play JKII with 640 by 480 resolution, but if I go higher, it will crash again.
I've played JKII before and could easily run with 1024 by 780 and with 32-bit colors.

Any idea why it crashes when I go higher than 640 by 480?

I'm glad I can play, don't get me wrong, and I'll still play if I can't get it higher than 640 by 480, but if I could, it'd be great, since 640 by 480 doesn't give that great a graphics.

Something still sounds fishy about the system... I would still make a backup of all your data - erase the hard drive and reinstall everything. 640x480x16 is definatly not right.

I tried to run it at 32 bit graphics and that works aswell so I can run JKII at 640x480x32.

And since I can play PlanetSide at 1024x780x32, how can it be my video card?
If it was fucked up in any way, wouldn't all my games be stuck with 640x480 resolution?
