View Full Version : PlanetSide II?
I figured this would be a relevent poll considering the smattering of discussion I have been seeing about this possiblity.

No, just a lot more of new concept and designs is all we need.
Either or works for me, though I think Planetside 2 would be best.
If you keep adding content to a game, it begins to bog it down because things get complex. Starting a new game means you can update the engine, the drivers, the graphics capabilities and clean out dust. It helps make things tidy and neat again.
i love planetside, and fresh content keeps the game dynamic. i'm content

WRONG! Wrong wrong wrong wrong. How could you be so wrong!!!
New engine, new code (tighter), more possibilities.
Or maybe they just need some new servers...

What would be great, is a DX9 upgrade, which is in the works correct?
And a "relaunch" with some new big content. Again. Like a new vehicle.. that cloaks.. , but with more marketing this time.

What PS needs is a solid way of herding the masses. Without that it simply cannot function.
It should take a few leaves out of Savage's book, which had an EXCELLENT command system.

Good Luck with that one, most of the updates the Devs have made have made the game worse.

They need to up the bandwidth on all 3 servers. I heard, not sure if it's true, that Markov and Emmy servers were operated from the same location, but Emmy had higher bandwidth. I'd also like to see DirectX 9 graphics (I know sam mentioned they were working on it).
The bit about Emerald being operated in the same location as Markov isn't true. Ping the server sometime.
Markov server is in CA. Emerald server is in VA. It's the same respective location for all SOE products. This was in evidence by last year's storm that took out the VA base, both Planetside and Everquest went down that day/weekend.

Like I said.. I heard, not sure if it's true
Still strange how I have a better ping to Emmy from Guam, when the west coast is so much closer.
I tend to get better ping to Werner than Markov, though being in DC, they're relatively close to the same distance away...

Most of the time I actually get a better ping to Markov, and I'm much closer to Emerald.

Ignorance is bliss.
I voted for more expansions and TLC on the one we already have.
A large portion of the playerbase is running the game on low res and textures as it is, and even my mighty beast of a machine struggles on high settings, so releasing a sexier bigger version of Planetside will cause more problems than it solves.
I think the Planetside engine is fantastic, a true example of excellent software engineering.
I have an intermediate understanding of it and im impressed.
Just think about it, how many other games even come close to the level of splendor on such a huge scale?
The answer is of course, zip, nada, none! :)
A planetside 2 in say, 2-3 years would be nice though :)

Sexier, bigger versions are not the reason a new release would be a good idea. Better more streamlined and effeicient programming is. They need to look at how PS playes from every level of the code to bring great graphics at great speed. This would require a program rewrite. The core rules of the game itself, however, are attaining a kind of balance and perpetual motion that should NOT be changed.
For me, PS the sequal should merely be PS with a new, more efficient engine.
One thing I'd like to see is a universal viewing distance. The idea is that all players see equally far. Players on lesser machines are at a game disadvantage when they lower the viewing distance on their computers. Making a universal veiwing range is;
More fair to all players.
Requires the developers to be more honest about the true spec requirements of the game.
Requires streamlining of the code to make the game more accessible to lower powered players.
This also makes the servers able to bear more players, with fewer issues.
All in all, an engine revamp would do the game wonders. The game itself has evolved quite nicely and doesnt need a massive overhaul.
In short if PS 2 is being considered. Consider only a new and more efficient graphics engine. Leave the gameplay alone.
New games = Shinier graphics, More stable (hopefully) game engine = More customers
Besides, I want more people to kill
I honestly dont think they could make the graphics better and have it work for more than 30% of there current playerbase.

This is why War on Auraxis was earlier-suggested to SOE was we wanted to bring the community and the developers closer together, much like Monolith has done with its stories for The Matrix Online.
By opening up new ideas shown by fans to the company, one of the primary goals was a petition to get SOE to purchase a license in SOURCE (the engine we intend to build the machinima in, should it get approved) use it to create a sequel, and implement any some of the community-ideas into the game through a "co-operative" initiative. The way this would work would be through competitions and such to get your name credited for the suggestion and planning of the new addition (probably no money though, sorry).
A sequel for the simple reason that there would be LOTS of marketing dollars and we'd get a a ton of new people (plus all you noobs).
And, tighter code, nicer graphics (Like dude, I can run HL2 at high but PS at medium, wtfpwned!!). And the "hit detection" thing -- i forget is it clientside that we want? (looks at Rahl...) And, finally, how about discreet hitboxes so aiming matters more?
Plus, I'm B O R E D. I want new stuff to learn. Its hard being, like, ya know, a genius and totally knowing everything... (dude could you tell in from california?)
