Hello there, people!
First off, sorry if this is in the wrong spot. I looked around for a FAQ or posting guide, but didn't find anything.
Now, on to my question.. I registered for a PlanetSide trial and have since been downloading files through the patcher. I'm on broadband, so this should be an overnight affair. Unfortunately it's already cost me the better part of 3 days. For some bizarre reason, the patcher loves hanging at random intervals. It will just time out the connection and sit there, sullen and probably dissapointed with it's own performance.
For most files this isn't an issue (as a bit of background info: I've always had this issue with SOE patchers. EQ - EQ2 and PS all do the same thing.. Switching PC's hasn't helped, switching routers / connecting directly hasn't helped, moving to the other side of the world (not joking!) hasn't helped.. I'm starting to believe it's simply the fact I do not live in the US and thus do not have as good and stable a connection to their patch servers as people who do would). For a single file named 3dsounds.wav however, it is. I must have tried at least two dozen times over the last 4 days to get it downloaded in full, but the closest I've gotten is a roughly 150 meg large wav, which will merrily get overwritten the next time the patcher starts, as it's not coming up with the correct checksum.
My 7 day trial is getting close to expiring already, and though I do really want to play this game, I'm not doing so without at least having a quick glance at it first!
So my question, if you will excuse my verbosity, is as follows: Does anyone know an alternative way of getting that one specific file? Is there a trial download somewhere that has the whole 2GB downloadable? (at least that download would be resumable) or would someone maybe even be willing to put that one file up on an FTP somewhere?
Before you ask, I've done what the knowledgebase suggests: checked for read-only files in the directory (none), restarted patcher (as above, two dozen times at least), restarted my computer (dozens of times), cursed at it, asked nicely.. I'm sort of at a loss here. :/
Any help would be appreciated!
