View Full Version : New Decimator
In my eyes, the current use for decimators is as a squad support weapon for removing MAX's, destroying generators/terminals and on rare occasions, nipping tanks in the ass a bit.
What i would like to see, is more focused utilization of anti-armour weapons.
I want a weapon specifically made for infantry use, but deals considerable punch to it's target.
I dont want to see decimators used indoors at all, i think it would be better if they had some changes to make them better suited to simply removing tanks from the field of play for those of us who wish to sacrifice the certs to utilize such powerful weaponry.
The new decimator would act like in this video i made a while back (http://www.breedsplanetside.com/movies/New_Decimator.wmv).
To fire the weapon with any kind of accuracy, you would need to be crouched and still.
Then with the first click of the mouse you charge the missile inside the decimator and an audio "cooking" file is played and after 3/4 seconds a sound will notify you and a second left-click will launch the missile.
The missile would travel at a very fast speed and deliver a significant payload to the target.
So basically you get an outdoor anti-vehicle weapon that works wonders, but requires you be still and crouched whilst firing and a good amount of skill in order to track/strike the target.
What do you guys think?
I have always personally wanted an infantry mounted weapon that can 1-shot things such as buggies, deliverer's, and lightnings. But to balance the owange...make it one shot, and also have practically no blast radius.

LOL, nice vid .
If it stops people popping out from round corners, firing at my MAX and then hiding again I like it.

*slaps head*
I meant to include that it's 1 shot disposable and does indeed have no blast radius, it's a "crack" missile.

I agree 100%. I invisioned the ideal Decimator a 1-shot, massive punch RPG launcher with next to no splash.

It's a shame we can't have more voice macros, i really want "i need a ride" and "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" like in the vid i made :P
And i agree ED (Can i call you ED, EarlyDawn? ;) ) It would bring vehicles down a peg or two.
I forsee a big problem though, lesser buggies and armoured vehicles would be made less deserable due to there fragility towards such weapons.
I suppose it could be argued that a buggies defense is it's maneuvarability and speed?
Awesome idea there, seems as if it would work well with the aiming station idea I had

Yeah, I agree with pyrotechnic, I have Uni-Max, and nothing is more annoying to a max then a friggen wall of decimaters fired off then the enemy just ducks, making scatter-cannon= useless.

Right, cause not everyone can hit a marauder moving at top speed (I can usually get it pretty close when I got a good shot, but then their BFR friend comes to stomp on me so its moot)
My main question is, what would this do to a BFR? Would it cut it's shield down totally if placed in the right spot? Or would it be brushed aside like most everything else?

I'd leave that up to the devs tbh, imo i would have ita harsh effect on BFR's, but thats becuase im biased against them :P
It should take the shields down almost completely, but not to the point of them being beaten down. this way, one infantry man can't just get a New Deci out, take out the shield then pound away with their AV.
but thats becuase im biased against them
*in joe from family guy's voice* ROCK ON!!
BRING ON THE PAIN!!
sorry, didn't mean to let that slip.....
I would hope that these new Deci's would have something of a cool down time that keeps them from changing weapons for about 15 seconds. That way, the situation suggested by bwzman doesn't take place
Well im sure it would be balanced so that we don't see a 1 man anti-tank army ;)

Amen man! Amen!
I hate it when guys do that!
Cool vid Breed.
Thanks Land_Leech, i used to be an infil/adv.hacker/unimax so decimators would always be my undoing after i'd spent 12 minutes skillfully infiltrating a busy enemy base.
A few options to stop them being to game dominate.
1) How about putting them on a reuse timer like max armour and not being able to store in locker or pass to another player for starage: Reason - stops a player just sitting back and blasting every vehicle that comes in range due to them carrying 3-4 of them.
2) Making them take up a large amount of room so that can only carry 2 max: Again stops dominating the anti-vehicle scene.
3) Make them heat seekers rather than wire/rader(lockon) guided: Reason - would they would only fire if aimed at a large heat source i.e. a engine running on a vehicle (be it ATV or BFR) while infantry give off a low heat source so would not be able to fire at them.
Any option above would be good I think (or a combination of them) but I would tend towards the 1st one as I look at it from both sides. Hating enemy tanks while on foot, and hating AV infantry while driving ;)
Them taking up a large amount of space would limit there usage, but decimators already take up a third of a backback :P
I dont liek the idea of vehicle lock-on, i would ratehr it be based on skill then it being a fat striker, just have its damage vs infantry pathetic. :)
